At the IPM, which will be held from 27-31 January in Essen, Germany, Howitec Netting will be introducing Ornata Air Plus 1517, a 90 mesh anti-thrips netting. This insectnet is a sustainable product with a high UV-stability (kLy600) and is produced in Europe.
25 years insect netting
Howitec Netting B.V. based in the Netherlands started more than 25 years ago with their first insectnetting; a so called cabbage-rootfly-net with a square mesh of 1,35x1,35mm. This net was used only for direct covering of vegetables in the open field and only through a small number of biological growers.
Increase of interest in insect netting
“In the last 5 years a lot has changed”, as Anton Hulsegge, Sales Manager said,“the interest for insect netting increased a lot because of less availability of chemicals and those chemicals which can be used are more and more selective. Besides, the combination of mondial travelling and climate change, results in high pressure of several insects. Furthermore biological growing is getting more and more popular and insectnetting is the biological solution of controlling insects”, as Anton concludes.
Because of the high interest for insect netting, Howitec developed in co-operation with their producers different kind of insect netting for inside- and outside applications. This results today in 12 types of insect netting, with its own specific mesh size, yarn-thickness, colour and weight. The right advice and choice for the insect netting depends on the insect type and the kind of application
Anti thrips net Ornata Air Plus 1517
“As thrips is very hard to control we developed a new type of anti-thrips, theOrnata Air Plus 1517, as Anton Hulsegge continues his story. “Very special to this product is that the yarn-thickness of warp en weft is different. This results in a maximum ventilation/light-transmission and enough tensile strength. In movable systems in greenhouses, this kind of netting is used a lot. The mesh size is 0,15x0,17mm and the weight is approx.136 gr/m² ”.
